All Weather Stocks Have Long-term Price Upsides and Rising Dividends

Long-term investors look for companies that consistently grow their earnings and free cash. Usually their stocks reward patient investors with multi-year price appreciation (long-term capital gains) and increasing dividends that beat the rate of inflation. These type of stocks, which buyupside.com calls all weather stocks, can make money for both growth-oriented and income-oriented investors.

To qualify as an all weather stock, a stock must meet two criteria. First, it must trade consistently above its 10-year moving average (using monthly closing prices). This criteria selects stocks with long-term upside price trends and excludes stocks with extremely volatile upsides and downsides.

Second, quarterly dividends must follow a long-term increasing trend. Quarterly dividends do not have to increase each year, but the trend of dividend changes must be positive. Occasionally, a stock that has decreased a dividend but then immediately an increasing trend is selected.

The all weather stocks are a very select group; not many stocks qualify. But those stocks which meet our criteria should prove to be money makers for patient long-term investors. Through bull and bear markets, all weather stocks keep moving up in price and increasing their dividends.

Here are the current buyupside.com all weather stocks.
