Return Limit for Stock Returns Calculator
The calculator computes the number of returns that are greater than or equal to a specified percent return for different periods.
The calculator supports any stock, exchange-traded fund (ETF) and mutual fund listed on a major U.S. stock exchange and supported by Alpha Vantage. Some stocks traded on non-U.S. exchanges are also supported. Indexes are not supported.
Computational Notes
Here is an example of how the calculator works. Assume the return limit in percent is set at 100 for AAPL. This means the calculator will count all returns greater than or equal to 100 percent. Because AAPL prices begin in 1999, the calculator computes the returns for all possible buy and sell combinations from 1999 through the current month and year. It counts the number of returns that qualify (greater than or equal to 100%) and finally it computes the percentage of all returns that qualify for the period (total number of qualifying returns / total number of returns). It then does the same computations for the 1998 buy and sell combinations and continues doing these same computations year by year including the current year.
