Pfizer Pays Strong Dividends While On the Downside

Pfizer (PFE), a large pharmaceutical company, has continued to increase its dividend during a multi-year downside.

The quarterly dividend (adjusted for stock splits) has increased from $ 0.05667 per share in November 1997 to $0.29 in November 2007, a 411.74 percent increase. Currently, PFE's dividend yield is over five percent.

Although many long-term investors have suffered losses with the stock, long-term dividend reinvestment investors have been adding shares at an increasing rate during the stock's prolonged price decline. So if the stock recovers to the upside, these investors will benefit from having accumulated shares at relatively low prices.

I (RAH) am long Pfizer.
