Russell 2000 Outperforms the DJIA and S&P 500

The Russell 2000 (^RUT), an index that includes the 2000 smallest companies in the Russell 3000, has more than doubled since it bottomed at 327.04 on October 2002. ^RUT has easily outperformed the Dow Jones industrial average (^DJI) and the S&P 500 (^GSPC).

The prices in the upside price channel continue to set new all-time highs.


You can own the Russell though the iShares Russell 2000 Index Fund (IWM), a low-fee exchange-traded fund. Also, you can own the growth stocks in the Russell 2000 through the iShares Russell 2000 Growth Index Fund (IWO). And the iShares Russell 2000 Value Index Fund (IWN) includes the value stocks in the Russell 2000.
