Small Companies Outperform Large Ones

The Russell 2000 (^RUT), an index that includes 2,000 small-cap companies, is on the price upside. Since March 11, 2003 the Russell 2000 has increased 105.72% compared to a 58.02% increase for the S&P 500.

You can own the Russell 2000 through the iShares Russell 2000 Index (IWM), an exchange-traded fund that tracks the Russell 2000.
