International Paper is a Cyclical StockInternational Paper (IP), a large paper and forest products manufacturer, is on the downside of its sixth price cycle since 1995. The price moves within a cycle are extremely variable so short-term traders can make money with IP. IP is not a buy-and-hold stock so buy it on the upside and sell it after you have made a target profit or see the stock move to the downside. Use the Price Direction Indicator (PDI) to monitor its price moves. Of the 8,515 monthly close buy and sell combinations from January 1995 through November 2005, 5,277 (61.97%) made money and 3,238 (38.03%) were unprofitable The percent returns chart shows the winning buy and sell combinations in green and the losing buy and sell combinations in red.
